Gertie and Cassidy

posted Nov 29, 2015, 5:30 PM by Castaway Critters   [ updated Nov 29, 2015, 5:31 PM ]

Gertie and her baby - Cassidy.  Also a rescue goat - now a permanent resident.  After a terrible birth and delivery Cassidy is lucky to be alive - not so for her twin sister. Gertie almost died herself and after many hours of vet care and treatment- you can see for yourself - they did fine.

Coco

Coco is a female Himalayan - adopted from an organization and used for breeding after sending proof she had been spayed.  People just don't get it do they?

Nahla

Nahla is a female tiger stripe cat.  Unfriendly and unsociable - took some time but she is now the queen of her castle and a real lap cat!

Redford (cat) & Trace (dog) - both rescued from a bad situation - they look so mistreated now don't they??

The sweetest little Angora goat in the world. Taken from a petting zoo where she was born.  When the zoo closes for the season-- the goats all go to market! Not this little girl or her brother- they can live a life now without ever having to fear an end of season slaughter.

Kenny

A male fainter goat.  About a year old now and was actually pulled from a mans arms that was going to butcher him in his backyard and have a BBQ!  At time Kenny was about 3 months old and weighed about 15 pounds - lots of meat there huh????  Needless to say- he is alive and well in his forever home here.

Cracker & Friends

These are some of the Llamas here at the farm.  Our guard Llama - Cracker is looking at you - the others are permanent residents - rescued from a dying man with cancer wanting to make sure they went to a great home-and they did.

Shaniah

posted Nov 29, 2015, 5:05 PM by Castaway Critters   [ updated Nov 29, 2015, 5:05 PM ]

Shaniah is a year old female Chihuahua mix, just one of the survivors from Hurricane Katrina.  Totally scared and uprooted from her only family and home she had ever known.  She was turned over to rescue people to keep her safe.  No more home, no more family - she came to Indiana to start her young life again.  She will remain with us forever - she doesn't need any more changes.

Chester

Chester is about 5 years old, male mix small dog.  Owners abandoned him in the night when they moved out - tied him to a tree on a rope in the yard and there he stayed with no food or water for at least 10 days before someone realized he was left there and no one was coming back for him.  By this time the rope had done it's damage and cut a groove  around his entire neck about 1/2 inch deep - open, bleeding and infected. He was finally brought to a vet by Animal Control where he was treated for his wound, vaccinated, neutered and turned over to the rescue.  Scared and no longer able to trust people he recovered slowly and gained trust from the love and security he was receiving from us. Now he is a happy little guy able to run and play with other dogs and shows us his love by his constant loyalty and eagerness to please.  We decided to not upset him again and keep him here.
